PLEASE NOTE - The following file formats are acceptable. If you need help saving, converting or compressing files, ask your school media teacher. 

Video - Entrants can submit video up to 500MB in the following formats: 

  • MP4, AVI or MOV

  • Please aim to have a minimum resolution of 1280 x 720 (known as 720p).

Audio - Entrants can upload an audio recording of up to 100MB in the following formats: 

  • MP3 or WAV 

Text - Entrants can upload written word of up to 2MB in the following formats: 

  • PDF, DOC, DOCX or TXT 

Photos and art (painting, sketches and digital) - Up to 10 photos or graphics can be uploaded using the following formats up to 10MB for each file: 

  • JPEG, JPG, PNG, TIFF, TIF, PPT or PPTX

  • If submitting an artwork, supply a photo of your artwork here. If selected as a winner, your original artwork (with a maximum size of 100 cm x 100 cm) will be exhibited at Parliament House.

Consent and release agreement

The Australian Parliament and the Department of the House of Representatives (collectively referred to in this agreement as ‘the Parliament’) developed Yarning to raise awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and provide a platform for young First Nations Australians to connect with the work of the Australian Parliament by encouraging students to share their stories and culture through creative media. 

  • I give consent for the Parliament to use and publish my name, my year group, my town/state and my submission to the Yarning competition (including quotations attributable to you) in electronic and printed materials, the Parliament’s websites and as part of an exhibition installation at Australian Parliament House in Canberra.

  • I am aware that information published on the internet is accessible to users all over the world and the Parliament has no control over the possible subsequent use and distribution of submissions by third parties. 

  • I understand that all copyright in the materials vests in the Commonwealth of Australia.

  • I acknowledge that I am not entitled to any remuneration, royalties or payment in respect of the use of the work submitted to the Yarning Competition.

  • I give consent for the Parliament to create video recordings and photographs of me and of my accompanying parent/guardian as part of the competition and to publish these images online or in printed form.

  • I agree to the terms and conditions for the Yarning competition available on the entry form and on the Yarning website at Terms and Conditions.
